Quora Answer: Why did life evolve to a point where one of the species could become conscious enough to ask questions, make assumptions and form a diluted understanding about the physical world, itself and how they work?
Autopoietic Theory has a reason why this may have happened which is that it is impossible to separate life from cognition in living systems. Individual viable organisms have to achieve closure to self-organize, and this implies that within that closure life is mixed up with cognition and cannot be separated out, therefore there is in reality no such thing as the “mind/body” problem because to be living there must be “sense”, in both its senses.
